Recycled Dog Jacket

We are very proud to be able to introduce our new, unique and first of their kind, dog jackets handmade made in Devon from recycled waterproofs. Each one is individually made to our own design from a waterproof jacket, making your dog jacket one of a kind – there will not be another like it in the world!

The original idea came from my dog Winnie, a Working Cocker. I had an old Northface Jacket that was too good to be recycled but not good enough to pass on to Charity. I could not bear the thought of it ending up in landfill..so “I wonder if I could make a jacket for Winnie?” the idea was born. The trouble was finding someone to make them. It had taken nearly 3 years to get to this point, measuring dogs, making prototypes, having fittings and refitting’s, changing and developing the design, but we are here. And we hope you like them.

As the dog jackets are made from old waterproofs, they will have flaws, maybe a bit used, but that is the point, each dog jacket already has a story to tell. Some of them have cycled to Scotland, walked in the Dolomites, and been up mountains, they now have a second chance to explore with you and your dog.

At this point, I must say a big thank you to all of my grooming customers, walking groups and friends who have lent their dogs to be measured and remeasured, to try on samples and have donated jackets. In the future we will be using jackets from charity shops to continue to reuse and recycle

As all of our jackets are individually handmade, there will be variations in sizes. We have 3 sizes at the moment, with possibly more to come. The ‘George’ small, The ‘Winnie’ medium, after our Winnie of course (who is very sadly no longer with us) and The ‘Chizel’ – Large, after our latest addition to the family – Chizel the Chocolate Labrador. Each also has a ‘Walks with Winnie” woven tag and a Devon Flag, double sided with ‘Walks with Winnie’ logo.

Sizing and features: To get the correct size, measure your dog from the base of the neck, to the base of the tail. Each jacket has access for a lead and collar attachment near the neck, a pocket on the back with a zip for holding poo bags in (clean ones that is!) and access for the harness attachment. There are adjustment straps at the neck and rear end to adjust the leg straps by the tail. The body strap goes under the front of the body and is adjusted on the back. This body section keeps the underneath of your dog clean and dry.

The ‘Winnie’ – medium – 17′ or 43cm

The ‘Chizel’ – Large – 24.5′ or 62cm

Cleaning and washing instructions: Although the dog jackets are made from recycled waterproofs, they may not be 100% waterproof themselves after all the wear and tear they have had. But you can keep them reproofed by using Grangers wash and repel, or similar. Wash at 30c but DO NOT USE FABRIC CONDITIONER.
